What does the difference mean?
In the ORION cross-trial comparison, oral semaglutide produced about 4.2% more weight loss than orforglipron. That's a meaningful clinical difference — but it's an indirect comparison funded by Novo Nordisk, not a head-to-head trial.
No head-to-head trial exists at full doses. The only direct comparison (ACHIEVE-3) used the lower diabetes dose of semaglutide (14mg, not the 25mg obesity dose).
Why convenience matters
Both drugs require long-term use. A drug that works slightly better on paper but is harder to stick with may not produce better real-world results than a more convenient option.
Oral Wegovy requires waking up, taking the pill on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of water, then waiting 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else — every single day. Foundayo has none of these restrictions.
Which one might suit you?
Neither pill is objectively “better.” They suit different people and lifestyles. Discuss with your doctor.
Maximum weight loss is the priority? Oral Wegovy produced more weight loss in trials — if you can commit to the daily fasting routine.
Flexibility matters most? Foundayo removes all timing friction — take it whenever, with whatever. Better for variable schedules or morning medication routines.
Heart disease or high blood pressure? Semaglutide has proven cardiovascular benefits (SELECT trial). Orforglipron does not yet have cardiovascular outcome data.
Watching the budget? Both start at ~$149/month. At full dose, Oral Wegovy stays flat while Foundayo can reach $349. Check insurance coverage for both.
